Plazas

Isla Plazas consists of two small islands on the west side of Isla Santa Cruz, most of which only visit the south island. Isla Plazas is made up of 2 small islands just off the east of Santa Cruz, most of which only visit the south island. The landing is dry and takes you to a forest of opuntia cacti where it is sometimes difficult to walk due to the number of land iguanas scattered all over the ground.
A one-kilometer trail takes visitors along/walking through a ravine where you can see colonies of sea lions and tailed gulls and other nesting species.

Itinerary

Schedule: The departure is at 7:00 – 8:00 am with pick up from the hotel.
The return to Puerto Ayora is approximately at 4:00 pm.
Travel Time: After a 40-minute bus ride, you will arrive at the Itabaca Canal where your boat will be waiting. After a navigation of around 50 minutes, you will arrive at the island.
Activities: Once you land on the island, you will take a guided walk (in English and Spanish) through the Opuntias forest (giant cacti endemic to the archipelago, some of them reach up to 10 meters in altitude). Here you can see a large number of land iguanas that feed on the flower of these cacti. The trail, which is approximately 1 km long, will take you to a cliff where you can see many seabirds such as tropical birds, swallow-tailed gulls, boobies, etc., and you can see large colonies of sea lions. After this walk, you will have a hot lunch and soft drinks on the boat and then head to Punta Carrión, where you can swim with sea lions, white tip sharks, rays and different reef fish.
